چکیده

Background Quantification of interstitial (diffuse) myocardial fibrosis by T1 mapping may prove useful in a range of conditions. Both native T1 maps and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) are being increasingly used clinically and have been shown to be sensitive to a wide range of conditions and associate with worse prognosis. However, quality control by T1 phantoms is essential [1,2] and their long-term stability has not been demonstrated. Phantoms with long term stability could assure the stability of methods applied to patients against scanner alternations and across multiple centers. We sought to investigate the long-term stability of phantoms prepared to model T1 and T2 of blood and myocardium over a period of 52 weeks.

Magnetic resonance imaging phantoms for quality-control of myocardial T1 and ECV mapping: specific formulation, long-term stability and variation with heart rate and temperature

BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) phantoms are routinely used for quality assurance in MRI centres; however their long term stability for verification of myocardial T1/ extracellular volume fraction (ECV) mapping has never been investigated. METHODS Nickel-chloride agarose gel phantoms were formulated in a reproducible laboratory procedure to mimic blood and myocardial T1 and T2 val...

A T1 and ECV phantom for global T1 mapping quality assurance: The T1 mapping and ECV standardisation in CMR (T1MES) program

Background Myocardial T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) estimates have applications in a range of myocardial diseases. Factors responsible for systematic inaccuracies in T1 mapping are beginning to be known but little is known about its delivery at ‘health-care system’ scale and there is no global quality assurance (QA) system. Agarose phantoms are common in MRI and nickel ions preferred for lo...

A medical device-grade T1 and ECV phantom for global T1 mapping quality assurance—the T1 Mapping and ECV Standardization in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (T1MES) program

BACKGROUND T1 mapping and extracellular volume (ECV) have the potential to guide patient care and serve as surrogate end-points in clinical trials, but measurements differ between cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) scanners and pulse sequences. To help deliver T1 mapping to global clinical care, we developed a phantom-based quality assurance (QA) system for verification of measurement stab...

Effect of temperature and heart rate variability on Phantom T1 maps

Background Phantoms are increasingly being used for quality assurance when undertaking T1 mapping for myocardial interstitial fibrosis to ensure long-term stability of methods applied in patients e.g. against scanner alterations, across multi scanners and multi centers. We sought to investigate whether temperature and heart rate (HR) variability could influence Phantom T1/ECV as such a variatio...

Model-Based Acceleration of Look-Locker T1 Mapping

Mapping the longitudinal relaxation time T1 has widespread applications in clinical MRI as it promises a quantitative comparison of tissue properties across subjects and scanners. Due to the long scan times of conventional methods, however, the use of quantitative MRI in clinical routine is still very limited. In this work, an acceleration of Inversion-Recovery Look-Locker (IR-LL) T1 mapping is...
